Sophia Webster: Fashion

http://www.vogue.co.uk

http://styleprism.wordpress.com

These images are from the designer Sophia Webster's collection, what I like about her work is she is not afraid to use colour and pattern,

She mixes patterns and adds humour to her work[1]

she has also recently teamed up with makeup brand Revlon to create a range of shoes that were inspired by Revlon's latest lipstick collection , which I think is very interesting and unique.

Mass Production

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/design/images/tx_production.jpg

This image is an example of mass production within the textile industry,
I have chosen to research mass production as it is
 what interests me the most.
Mass production has its good and bad side, the good side
being you can manufacturer big amounts of items,
so for example this could mean fabric or prints etc.

mass production became prominent in the 1900s [1]

It also works out better for the main boss of the company for
which the products are being made
As it will be cheaper for them.

It also works out to be less expensive by making the
product in larger amounts. But a disadvantage might be
that due to the quickness of making the products,
not every product will always be the same.

Large quantities, you cannot check for
accuracy until several have been made[2].

An advantage is that it does give a person a job
and a wage but they might not get paid
very well, which is a disadvantage.

Sara Alidon photo
whom I worked in
a group with.
These images show my group work about ethics and answering different questions about a group of people and trying to work out the ethics, how they would be influenced etc.

Target Markets

Target markets are what company’s will aim their products to so a specific group of people for example a shop such as super dry would most probably aim their products at a younger market. Whereas a shop such as Laura Ashley would aim their products at older people because their style is more of a period style when it comes to interiors, their clothes are also aimed at an older market/ majority.

Interior Stylist

http://housetohome.media.ipcdigital.co.uk
This image is an example of what an interior stylist would doing at work , putting the room together and making the design, what like about being an interior stylist is you get to work for a magazine, and as I love magazines this work would appeal to me. I also think the idea of being an interior would suit me , as I love the  idea of putting whole looks together.

Surface Pattern Designer

http://thedesignhub.wordpress.com

This image shows a young and upcoming designer named Louise tiler who studied textiles and surface design at Leeds college her work is very inspiring as she has created it all herself  and makes me want to have my own collections of work out  there and give me the idea that I would like to be a surface designer as well.

Interior Designer

http://www.technical-schools-guide.com/careerguide/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/how-much-do-interior-designers-make-78650978-TS.jpg

This image shows an interior designer at work and I have chosen to look at this this type of work because I love the idea of being a designer and have wanted to design interiors since school. What I love about designing is you get to design people’s homes, which is so important to people, but also you could design bars or restaurants.  The skills and qualities needed to be an interior designer are good communication skills when meeting clients and knowledge of colour.

Trade Show Research

http://www.biztradeshows.com

This trade show takes place in Belfast exhibits all things to do with sewing so selling everything you could need to sew or embroider or nay other crafts to do with textiles. This trade show not only sells things, but also has workshops showing how to make things to do with textiles or crafts. A lot of people who work within the textile industry will be either exhibiting or attending the show and people will come from New York just to visit this trade show. I have chosen to look at this show because it focuses on not just sewing but crafts within the textile industry which Is interesting.

Trade Show Research

 http://www.biztradeshows.com

THIS trade show takes place in New York and is mostly a fashion trade show but sells design patterns and a lot of colour themes are on show there, so a lot of people who work with textiles could still visit there to gather information. There are 475 stalls at this show showcasing the best work and a lot of businesses are there making contacts within the industry and gathers a lot of visitors to the show. As well as a lot of media to the show, I have chosen to research this show as shows a different side to textiles this being mostly accessories, which I like.

Trade Show

This image is from the website http://www.biztradeshows.com

This show takes place in America and sells things like fabrics and accessories to go with the fabrics, a lot of suppliers would go to this show to collect items such as fabrics and sewing accessories. A lot of buyers for fashion or interiors would go to this show, as it is an international trade fair, but also creative directors would be going to this trade show, to do research and take back to their company’s. I have chosen to research this trade show, as I wanted to not just look at trade shows in the UK but look at international trade shows. And also because I just love anything to do with vintage.

The country living trade shows main focus is on Christmas sells mainly gifts for Christmas, but also there
Is workshops and live demonstrations that take place. I think with the county living trade show there is a certain market group or level, you would expect I think it to be not a high level but somewhere in the middle. The reason I like country livings trade show I really like the whole country look and anything vintage, so there trade show would appeal to me.

Gift Research:

This image is from the website
www.jhonlewis.com
This image is from the website
www.jhonlewis.com

These images show work that has been made by the designer / gift maker Caroline Gardner, her work is very much, simple and in a way more free , yet they seem to work brilliantly. I also think that sometimes design work can be so technical and detailed and her work is like a breath of fresh air within the design world, which is what I like, I also like her choice of bright colours.

Trend Research

This is an image from www.trendbible.com
What I like most about these images is the 1970s floral print as I am a big fan of floral prints and this collection of images is a great example of a trend for children’s rooms. I also like how they have looked to the past for inspiration and this gives me more inspiration to do the same.

Trend Research : Sea Storm

This image is from the website www.trendbible.com.

What I like about this whole image is, how a picture has been used as inspiration, with the theme being the sea. I like how there is a more contemporary image next to a more older image and how the colours have been selected, they are what I would consider as being contemporary as well . These images prove the point as to why research is so important as by looking at one image, this can create a whole trend.

Trends Research: Majestic

www.trendsbible.com
I have chose to post this image as it represents the trend called majestic , meaning glamour and luxury. This trend for interior has rich , deep , bold colours that look like jewels which I like. It also has velvet fabrics that are set off by a backdrop of period , damask  wallpaper.

Interior Research: Sophie Conran

Ideal Home Magazine
These two pages are scanned in from ideal home magazine the show the designer Sophie Conran , who has her own wallpaper collection as well as a variety of things like cookware. Her father terrace conran is big in the design world and has even been knighted, her brother is jasper conran who is a fashion designer at Debenhams , so there is a lot of her family members that are famous not just Sophie. But what I love about her work ,  especially her wallpaper range , from the bold dramatic colours , to the delicate patterns she has it all going on in her work, which I love.

Gift Research: Kate Goldman

 www.boxofbirdsblog.blogspot.co.uk
This image of work is by the designer Kate Goldman. What I love about her work is just how quirky as well as simple her designs are but they still work. They are bright, cheerful and colourful, also her work has been placed on everything from stationary to food packaging in m and s.

Gift Research: Kirstie Allsopp

These two images are from Kristie Allsopp official website, I chose to research her because she is a craft queen, and also does I lot of designer maker work including gift, bedding ceramics etc. Kristie Allsopp has been viewing and designing homes for years , what she does not know about houses is not worth knowing about.

Gift Research : Clintons

The reason I have chose to look at Clintons is that they sell a
big range of gifts like cards, bags etc.. They have been a firm
favourite  on the high street for years and collaborate with
designers selling their products, which is what I like about
The shop.

Gift Research: Paperchase

The reason I have chosen to look at the company paper chase is
That they have many designers who design their collections and
Not only are the collections so on trend, but their designer’s start
the trends when it comes to gift or style .The collections are so off beat, but
are also very quirky, I think their range is hard to beat.

Fashion Research :Next

www.thedrum.com

I chose to look at the next shop because I wanted to show the broad range
of the market from the big designers to, to the designers for the
High street and also the middle of the market like what next
Possibly be. I like the shop next because they have a lot of
Good quality, also they have a lot of lispy clothes that they sell.
This is another designer brand that a high street shop has
Collaborated with.

Fashion Research: River island

http://statics.192.com/estreet/original/large/1088/10888902.jpg

I have looked at river island to show the difference between high street and the top designers.

Fashion Research: Dolco And Gabbana

This shows the Dolce and Gabbana collection for 2013. These prints
have been everywhere this year and have even been seen on Katy Perry.
What I really like about these prints is the fact they are so unusual but still
Work, I also really like the bold colours , as they seem to really work with the shape and style of the clothes.

This page I have scanned in from look magazine.
I chose to add this page in from look magazine as I believed in tied in well with
the Dolce and Gabbana research, this is because the  range is very much an illustrated pattern and my magazine page shows how this is clearly a big trend for 2013. The patterns are very much , graphic and illustrated and unlike a design that I have seen before , which is why I like the designs.

Fashion Research: Erdem

www.fashionsnobbish.com

what I find successful about this work is the bright quirky floral prints in bright
Electric colours and also shows apart from dresses, erdem creates
Trouser suits as well.

Fashion Research: Erderm

www.josephinekimberling.com/blog/spring-2013-erdem/ ,

This photo is from erdems spring collection,
erdem is one of my favourite designers as he uses a lot of floral
Patterns in pale colours, but also uses bright and bold colours as
A way of expressing himself which I find successful.

Fashion Research: Roberto Cavalli

 http://runwaymagazines.com

The reason I have looked at Roberto Cavalli is he is very well
Known in the fashion world and he has a lot of girlie prints
In his collections, which I like and he also is a big
trend setter.
